Xtralite Aerogel Rooflights get BBA seal of approval
Xtralite Rooflights Ltd, the first UK rooflight manufacturer to be awarded an Environmental Profile Certificate from the British Board of Agrément (BBA), has been adding to its green credentials.
An innovator in its field, Xtralite was the first to bring Lumira aerogel to the UK, and now boasts another BBA Environmental Profile Certificate confirming the Ecopoint point scores achieved by its aerogel filled structured polycarbonate rooflights with aluminium bars.
The pioneering material, which is widely specified within Xtralite products across education, retail, commercial and public building projects, offers superior performance in a whole host of areas including heat transfer, acoustic dampening, light transmission and weight.
The BBA Environmental Profile Certification is calculated in line with BS EN ISO 14040 standards and takes into account the manufacturer’s performance in 13 embodied environmental impact categories, including Global Warming (embodied carbon), giving an Ecopoint weighted value for each.
Receiving the accreditation, Jim Lowther, Sales Director at Xtralite Rooflights, said: “We have built our reputation on being a manufacturer the industry can approach with confidence and this latest certificate is yet another example of how we go to great lengths to help our customers meet their legislative and environmental targets with ease.”
Lumira aerogel technology produces shadow-less light transmission and an acoustic reduction of 25% at 1,000Hz. It weights just 3.6kg per m2 compared to 30kg per m2 for glass double glazing and when used as part of Xtralite’s innovative Xemplar System can offer a total system Ud value of just 1.0 W/m2K, greatly exceeding the 2.2 W/m2K requirement of Building Regulations Part L.
